Sackville School Level 2 Access course – ONE year duration
This is a new transitional one year course enabling students to develop highly desirable transferable skills in addition to improving confidence in their own abilities and subject knowledge.
Studying our level 2 access course gives you the opportunity to gain the qualifications that you need to progress your career and your educational aspirations.
Sackville School GCSE Maths and English resit taught courses plus Level 2 Access course
Our popular and innovative level 2 access course is for students who have not gained English and/or Maths GCSE at grade 4 or above. This one year course aims to give students the opportunity to gain core qualifications in addition to achieving additional GCSE equivalent level qualifications. This level 2 programme of study aims to set students up to enter a level 3 college course or apprenticeship. In some cases students may progress on to a level 3 Btec or A levels programme of study on successful completion of the one year level 2 course.
In addition to dedicated English and maths GCSE tuition, the Level 2 Access course includes:
EITHER:
OCR Level 1/2 Cambridge National Child Development (one year course)
OR:
BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Travel and Tourism (one year course)
PLUS
Lessons in Financial Education (LiFE)
LiFE gives students an online financial education on a ‘learning by doing’ basis looking at personal finances, money management and financial careers through accessible online learning.
This qualification equips you with the knowledge to cope confidently and effectively with basic financial encounters you are likely to meet. You will develop knowledge and understanding of spending and how to become competent at managing your own money. You will also explore various careers within the financial services industry.
Work Experience/Volunteering
Alongside the learning pathway students would be expected to carry out either a work experience placement or a number of hours volunteering to complement their programme of study.
Options on completion of the Level 2 Access course:
- Progress to Level 3 courses at Sackville. (This is possible if at least five Level 2 grades have been gained at grades 9 – 4).
- Progress to other level 2/3 courses at an alternative institution.
- Progress into apprenticeships or employment.
Students will be supported by the Futures Leader in seeking suitable next steps once the course is completed.
