Guidance: GCSE or Level 2 BTEC in music would be beneficial and it would be advantageous if you can play an instrument or sing.

Course description:

A level 3 BTEC in music offers students the chance to develop their skills in musical disciplines including composing, performing and sequencing, utilising and expanding their musical experience as they gain industry relevant skills and develop the ability to produce high quality musical outcomes. Students will develop their knowledge of, and practical ability to, create music which fulfils a range of vocational briefs and contexts, in a course that includes a range of coursework assignments and an externally assessed exam. Our extensive facilities, including live performance space and recording studio, ensure students will work in an inspiring creative environment. They are encouraged to participate in our extra curricular groups and the variety of concerts throughout the year, and will be supported by a welcoming community of staff and students as they continue their musical journey.

Assessment:

The course is graded through both internal and external assessment. External assessments will be set tasks which must be completed in a set amount of time, whereas internal assessments will be graded on demonstrations, presentations, write-ups, projects and case-studies.

What can I do with this qualification?

With this qualification, you can move into virtually any area in the music industry from studio production to live sound, even acoustic design. This BTEC carries the same amount of credit as a full A-level so it will assist you in applications to universities and colleges.
